"Declutterizing"

(Ok so I am making up a new word. If word verification can do it so can I.)

I am trying to make my home sing by de-clutterizing and painting this week. So for Making Your Home Sing Monday, I am getting rid of all the junk I have collected that really has no sentimental value and that is totally not needful.
What started this declutterization? (another new word!) My Father in Law and two other family members are coming for a visit next week! We are so excited! It´s been a long time since we have had family come to see us. I think the last time we had family come out to visit was in 2002. Of course, we have seen everyone since then on furloughs (2004 and 2008), but it´s different when they get to come see us!
Our home is cozy, small and just right. But, it needed some declutterizing and some paint! Even the boys are getting in on the fun! They already have sorted their legos and their cluttery drawers of collectables. I think they have gotten a whole trashbag full of junk already to throw out! It´s amazing the things we collect.
I did take before pictures and some after pictures. You will have to wait for the pictures with all the decorations up,but for now you can see the colors. We have lived here for four years and the only painting we have done is the bathroom ceiling (due to mold. yuck!) and the boys room when we got them new bunks 2 Christmases ago.
My home may not be singing a symphony yet, but we are on the way to having a nice fresh clean organized home!
My Hubby (the better painter) getting started on our living room.

Yours truly getting in on the fun!

The finished wall.
(the funny thing is the colors are almost identical to the colors in our church.)

the other side of the living room.
(we only painted two walls as the other two were still good)

Bedroom before

After (with out decoration)

Entryway before. Wall to wall wallpaper!

(it was falling off in so many places)

We had a lot of help with this part!

Pizza Party after 2 1/2 hours of stripping wall paper!

Lord willing by next week, I can post the finished product of the hallway and entry. We hope to put a pretty paper border all the way around.

  1. Go girl. It will feel so good when you are finished. I have been helping my husband re-do paint, ceilings, wallpaper, floors etc. in Michael and Nina's first home that we take care of and rent out. Hard work but rewarding.

A hot pink and girly pale pink bedroom! How did you pull that off with such a manly man?

  6. Very pretty. Painting parties are so much more fun than doing it by yourself!

I look forward to more pictures!

BTW, I am going to go ahead and add your link to Mr. Linky, o.k.? Thanks for participating today.

  7. I always have problems viewing your blog. Blogger has been a major source of stress for me today. I struggled with it all day to recognize my latest post. Must have been some sort of boycott or something!

Anyway, like I've already said, everything is looking great! You guys have worked so hard! And don't you hate that mold problem! We have it too, especially in the bathrooms. I've found that spraying bleach water directly onto the paint, sitting a second then wiping works wonders on mold! I did our entire living room and the walls up the stairs in February. Used a step ladder, but still couldn't reach the very tall areas around the front door and steps.

Anyway, thought I'd pass that along to ya. Oh yeah, I squirt it on the ceiling above my shower every 3 months or so....does great!

  10. I love the two tone look! I'm just learning how to be brave with paint, I may have to copy your ideas of having two different colored walls.

Doesn't it feel great to get rid of all that extra stuff? It's like your house went on a diet. I feel so much better even when I organize a small space. You're doing a great job!
